AWEX has signed a cooperation agreement with the Texas A&M University System, one of the largest systems of higher education in the United States in order to fulfil the following objectives:
 
1.
Building global companies through the simultaneous commercialization of new technologies in Europe and the United States, developed within the Texas A&M System and Universities or Companies in Wallonia.
2.
Facilitating the penetration of Walloon start-ups in the US market by providing them the right to use services provided by Texas A&M System Office of Technology Commercialisation, its Research Parks and Incubator; together with a privileged access to the university network
 3.
Providing in returns assistance to start-ups of its American partner willing to enter the European market via the Walloon Region.
 4.
Connecting companies in Wallonia and the United States for the creation of technological or commercial partnerships
 5.
Prospecting multinationals in the field of R&D in order to present them research capabilities available in Walloon universities and within the Texas A&M System
 
AWEX primary goal throughout this partnership consists of increasing the knowledge expertise in Wallonia and facilitating Walloon innovative enterprises access into the US market.

Complementarities between the Region of Wallonia and the Texas A&M System
 
Both partners possess great capabilities to stimulate the creation of innovation: there are 9 universities in Wallonia, spending on average €480 millions annually, and about 300 R&D centres; meanwhile the Texas A&M System is one of the largest university systems in the United States. The entire system comprises 19 universities and state agencies, for a total of 115.000 students and 27.00 employees. Research expenditures at the Texas A&M amounts to more than $730 million per year. The Texas A&M System and the Walloon Region also possess numerous common fields of excellence, such as life sciences, mechanical engineering, aerospace, logistics, clean technologies and the agro-food sector.
